Deserts suck

So the last  2 weeks were a bit of a struggle. A lot has happened and honestly I don't even know where to start. I don't think it’s necessary to share all the details but in short,two of my team members have left global year. I’m experiencing a lot of emotions but I’m really just trying to forgive and move on.

When I was younger my mom used to listen to this song, it may have even been my grandmother but I distinctly remember the chorus . It said Jesus made a way when there was no way, he’s a way maker! The song was from a very old black gospel choir and I was never really a fan of it growing up, but ironically that song lyric has stuck with me. While doing my devo this particular morning, I read Isaiah 43. Now some of you may know that I have a particular fondness for Isaiah 43:18-19. I find them to be powerful verses and even plan on getting them inked on me in the near future, but that’s not what I was focused on today. Verse 19-21 states;

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.‭The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.”
‭‭

I’m not sure how I’ve missed this section for so long, but when I read it today I just immediately understood how this applied to me. Now I’m no Bible scholar at all, but I’m pretty sure I got this one from God, guys.

Point on;deserts are In avoidable even as a new creation. There’s gonna be deserts or wastelands you have to cross in your life. It sucks; suffering is the worst but my second thought was sometimes we get ourselves into these wastelands. Not always, but a lot of times we’re there because of our own choices. My last thought was even when we’re in these crappy places ie: the wasteland or desert, God can still get you out of it because he’s God.He’s the only one that not only has mercy on us and saves us from the desert, but he also shows mercy and makes a whole stream in the desert and offers up a cup of water.I think we forget that God is God sometimes or maybe it’s just me, but I mean this is the same guy that literally raised his son from the dead making a stream in the desert isn’t that difficult for him. We just have to take him up on the offer.

So that being said I’m in a desert right now. You guys may be familiar with it it’s the great unforgiving desert. Unfortunately I wander here often you’d think I’d know to just take the cup of water, but nope, I keep slapping it away. It’s hard to forgive people when you don’t want to. My sinful nature just wants to hold onto the anger and sit in it but that’s not getting anyone anywhere. So instead I’m doing my best to focus on just praising God for the good things and be out of this desert and to be the creation God wants me to be.
