This summer I have been working as a lifeguard. The other day I was able to rescue an active drowner! At first, as she was coming off of the slide, she appeared fine, and then quickly started drowning because she didn’t know how to swim. So often, in our spiritual walks, we seem fine even though we’re slipping into worldly habits. Then we suddenly start drowning in those habits and need to be saved. Like a lifeguard jumping in to save a drowning swimmer, Jesus jumps in to save us from drowning in the world if we turn to Him. We need to ask Him for forgiveness and to help us escape worldly habits. Jesus saves the lost. He will chase you until you come running back to Him. As Luke 15:4-7 says, “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” Jesus wants to bring you back if you’ve gone astray like a sheep. He loves you.
After I saved someone’s life, it got me thinking. While saving a person’s physical life is essential, it’s so much more important that they know Jesus and are saved spiritually. Life can be considered pointless without knowing Jesus and living life to serve Him. As one of the most famous Bible verses says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”(John 3:16). Jesus died on the cross taking on all of our sins so that we can have eternal life with Him! He showed His glorious power through rising from the dead three days later and ascending into heaven! Through the action of dying on the cross and rising again, He has saved so many lives spiritually. This gets me even more excited to head out in less than a month! I’ll be able to share the gospel more and hopefully lead people to Jesus!
