I set out on a journey to fulfill an unsatisfied hunger,
I didn't realize till I was awakened how long I'd been in a deep slumber.
Searching in areas that changed the route of my pursuit,
All contributed to the journey that's produced some sweet fruit.
With patience and practice I learn to live by this Word,
Not for religion, but for a man who loves me so much, He died on the third.
But not only did He do this, additionally He left a gift,
I am learning to receive it and no longer drift.
Through this gift I can better understand and experience His love,
His authority and miracles still exist thanks to the descending of a dove.
A teacher that patiently guides me minute by minute,
Slow to anger, gracious and merciful, thanks to these characteristics my mistakes have no limit.
By this gift, I learn to be more gentle and kind,
I'm thankful where this pursuit led me, so that I could be refined.
I now understand satisfaction is not the goal,
Rather, pursuing unity through a Christlike lens is what makes my heart whole.
"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want"
Is now something I live out, rather than just reading the font.
Two days ago my squad arrived to Nicaragua after leaving a sweet two weeks in El Salvador. We spent that time being poured into by leadership that met us there to debrief our first eight weeks in Honduras. I wrote this poem after leaving this intentional time of resting, learning, and seeking out God in the exciting and the mundane.
Our time in El Salvador flew by but some of my favorite things that occurred were hiking a volcano and going to a revival service from 8pm-3am. The volcano hike was AMAZING (check photos for the view!). As far as the revival service: long story short, some of the squad met a pastor on the road when having car problems and he sent a truck to pick us up for service a few days later. We road on the back of the truck in the streets of El Salvador for an hour or so and got home around 5am-worth it.
After a 23 hour travel day on a bus, as well as a second travel day of a little bit of busing plus a ferry ride, we arrived in Ometepe, Nicaragua! My team is volunteering alongside a child protection center on the island. It is so beautiful and the kids have welcomed us right in. We have only been here for a couple days and our hosts, as well as the kids have loved on us and opened up so intentionally. Here we will be helping out in the school, as well as working on gardens, in the kitchen, and anywhere else help is needed. We are super excited to spend the next three weeks here!
