Fabi

We have known Fabiola for about a year now, since last August when she gave a yes to come live at the base for a month and be a part of Hineni Intensive, our introduction to missions program. She didn't know us and she didn't know a thing about Adventures in Missions, but she felt compelled to drop everything and join us. Though her family struggled with the decision, they allowed her to come. Fabi describes that month as life changing. She has since continued to join us for ministry several times a week and served as a leader at our last Hineni Intensive in May. Fabi told me that she lived in Chimaltenango, a city about 10 minutes away from our base. I recently found out that it is a little more complicated than that when she invited us for a visit. Since Fabi's father struggled with alcoholism for 15 years, the family lost their home and struggled through poverty. Fortunately, they were gifted a tiny plot of land by her mother's family. Through gifts from their local church, groups from the States, and because of her father's restoration to the family, they have been able to slowly make a home. We drove half an hour on washed out dirt roads to get to that precious home. It is the last house on the last road in one of the furthest villages that is still considered Chimaltenango. This is a journey that our dear Fabi has been making several times a week! We sat with her as she shared about the call that she feels to be a full time missionary in Turkey. Her heart has been awoken to the possibilities and there is no going back. As Fabi is raising support for the first time, she is struggling to have faith that God can call one such as her to go. The tiny church in her village has never sent a missionary. Her family has never seen the type of money that would be required to go. But as Fabi shared her heart, the story of Gideon came to mind. With his own mouth, Gideon acknowledged that he was the least of his father's house in the weakest clan of Manasseh. It is so clear to us that God has chosen Fabi and as she takes steps to obey his calling, we know that it is absolutely all to his glory and for the sake of his Kingdom.
