A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of going to Jackson, Kentucky with 3 of the Gap squads to help with flood relief. The men of Gap J, the men of Gap K, and the entirety of Gap L partnered with Samaritan’s Purse. This was my third year working with “SP” and this year was incredibly different from past years. These Racers are the most evangelistic and Spirit-hungry generation of Gap Racers yet! While we worked on homes and cared for families that lost everything, the Lord also used us to impact a whole community with the Kingdom. Everyday over our two weeks there, people came to know the Lord. Salvation and miracles were being poured out. Two people were baptized! My men would even go to Walmart to share the gospel and were kicked out multiple times for distracting the employees!
One testimony shared was from Gap L. They were working on a house and the homeowner’s son lived next door. On day one, he was very closed off to Jesus. By the end of day two, he found Jesus. His countenance changed! The Racers took him down to the river, the very one that flooded his home, and he was baptized. The day after that, he was so moved by the Holy Spirit and admitted that while he and his wife were separated, he wanted to be reconciled and start over in his marriage. Luis and one of the SP volunteers performed a marriage ceremony in their backyard and this couple renewed their vows! Praise God!
Another short story comes from Gap J. They met a man at a senior center who had trouble understanding scripture. They showed up over their lunch break to have a bible study with him and were received by nearly 15 older seniors who wanted to join in on this study! They were able to continue to pour into these relationships over the course of our time there.
Continue to pray for Samaritan's Purse as they serve in Kentucky and Gap Year as they launched to Guatemala, Cambodia, and Nicaragua this week!
