Training camp is now coming to a close. My time here in Georgia has had many ups and downs. But overall it has been a really good experience that has prepared me to go out into the field. I have experienced growth in my faith as well as growth in my knowledge of the Word and what that means for my life. We have had many sermons and lectures to teach us and prepare us for going out, and it has been extremely beneficial for everyone here. I am so ready to leave training camp and get onto the field. I’m excited to know I’m about to start actually acting out the calling the Lord has put on my life after having to wait for it to happen for several years now.
We have also been able to do some fun things like go on hikes. One of the hikes we went on was through the Appalachian trail, and that one was a challenge for me. It was over ten miles and had quite a bit of elevation gain, but I was so glad I did it afterwards, because it really pushed me towards the end. Another hike was a shorter hike where we hiked a little over two miles up Mount Yonah, where we stayed the night in our tents and hiked back down the next morning. It was fun to spend time with the people here and it had a great view where we were able to watch the sunset. It has also been cool to see how grateful I am for the little things. Like when we go to Walmart and I get to use a normal toilet or a normal sink. The other night they decided to take us to McDonald’s just to reward us for all of our hard work, and I either am appreciating little things way more, or McDonald’s has made a major turn around in how good their food is during the month that I’ve been here at training camp.
The men leave to go to Kentucky on Saturday, the 25th. There we will be doing flood relief in Appalachia where many homes have been destroyed. We are doing this through Samaritan’s Purse and we will be stripping down houses to give the people with these homes a fresh start, because many of them have mold in them and can not keep anything inside. I would like to ask for y’all to please pray for the teams that will be doing this work. It is supposed to be very physically strenuous, but the main concern is what it may do to us mentally. The testimonies we’ve heard from people who have been there is that it can be very hard to process the state that so many people are in. The people here are extremely impoverished, and we have heard there is not much hope there for the future. I would like to ask y’all to please pray that all of us will be able to process this well and that we may have the Lord guiding us through the entire process. I would also like to ask y’all to pray for the people we will be serving. Please pray that they will be able to come to know Jesus if they don’t already, and that when we are witnessing to them that they can have open hearts that are ready to accept the love of Jesus, despite these things they have had to go through. We will be there working in Kentucky for two weeks. Then we come back here to camp in Georgia for debrief where we are here for a little under a week. After that we leave for Cambodia. I appreciate all of you that are praying for me and I ask that you continue to pray for me as we move forward.
