Happy Sunday everyone! If you've never read one of my blogs before a big, heartfelt "WELCOME" to you, and let me fill you in on something very exciting that's happening this month. For the entire month of September I have taken on the challenge of posting one blog a day. You read that correctly. One blog everyday. For 30 days (cue big gulp and nervous sweat). With that being said... you should go check out my first post of the month from yesterday, "A Storyful September." Please go to the Home Page on my blog and click the button that says "SUBSCRIBE FOR UPDATES." This will be the BEST way to keep up with me once I leave for The World Race in just 33 SHORT DAYS!! Now let's get on with Day Two's blog shall we?
I recently posted a blog entitled "Be Like Elsa, Let it Go (if you haven't read it yet you should scroll on over to it next)," in it I talked about "Women's Day" of Training Camp. I explained that God taught me many lessons on this "man free" day of camp, and then went on to reveal ONE of the lessons. Again I say... go check it out. I'm excited to now be able to share with you lesson TWO from "Women's Day!" Here we go...
A fun fact about me that you'll know if you've spent time with me is that I am extremely clumsy. Extremely is probably putting it lightly because I am honestly one of the clumsiest people you will ever meet. With that being said, it probably doesn't come as any shock for me to tell you that I tripped and fell quite a few times at Training Camp. Lesson number two was followed by one of these falls that left me with mud-stained calfs, a bloody knee, and dirt-caked hands.
As I started walking to the porta-potty (oh yeah in case you didn't know, these were our bathrooms of "choice" at Training Camp) I looked down at my legs and arms and realized how disgusting I looked. Training Camp helped to get me in the habit of constantly having open discussions with God, so without even thinking I uttered aloud, "wow God, I'm so dirty." I immediately felt Him respond and it was as if He said, "that's always how you see yourself. You could be freshly showered, in beautiful clothes, with your hair and makeup done, but you always believe yourself to be dirty and ugly. Get out of the mud my girl because you're clean."
I'm just filling you in on all the fun facts about me, so here's another one for you; for years and years I've prayed that God will allow me for ONCE to see myself the way He sees me. I've prayed that He will give me eyes to see what I truly look like and see what He finds so special about me because I had never been able to see it before.
As I closed the door to my porta-potty I stared into the tiny mirror on the back of the door, and smiled at the girl staring back at me. Yes, she even had mud and dirt on her face, but in that moment I got a glimpse of what my Papa sees when He looks at me. He gave me vision and although I was covered from head to toe in dirt, sweat, blood, and bug bites, I had never felt more beautiful.
Makeup doesn't get to make or break me. A shower won't show others my inner beauty. Styled hair won't help me have joy. My beauty is found in the outpouring of love that my Papa gives to me each and everyday. My beauty is found in the infectious laughter that can't help but come out because I'm filled to the brim with joy. My beauty is found in the worship and adoration that I lift up to my Papa because He is good. And yes, my beauty is even found in the messy, mud-stained woods of Gainesville, Georgia. Beauty can be found in the most unlikely of places and I'm so thankful that my Papa gave me vision to see that!
