The Adventure Isn’t “Out There” (8/22/22)

On Friday, I'll be heading to training for World Race. In a lot of ways, it seems I am about to start one of the greatest adventures of my life. And I am. I'll be traveling to many different countries (one of my life-long dreams) and meeting people all around the world to talk about Jesus with them. It sounds pretty exciting, right?

However, I hope we never mistake the excitement of a new adventure as being greater than the abundant joy God offers us for each day. Adventure isn't traveling or meeting new people. The greatest adventure is living with God in the daily, "mundane" tasks He gives us to do.

I have to remind myself of this truth often. It's easy to believe that there's something greater "out there". Yet, the greatest thing we can ever possess is a relationship with God, and, thankfully, we can have one right here and right now.

"But godliness is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment" (1 Timothy 6:6). Godliness is being holy like God, such as by obeying Him. Therefore, as we are content with what God has given us in the present, our obedience to Him becomes a source of great gain for us. What do we gain? We gain a greater relationship with God and a deeper love for Him. These things are the most precious in the world!

Contentment is a key part of living our great adventure with God. I hope we all remember the abundant joy God offers us right now through Jesus. We have everything to gain in living for Jesus wherever we are and whatever we are doing.
